SpaceX reportedly just secured new funding last week. According to a source, the amount reached US $ 850 million or Rp 11.8 trillion and made the company's valuation skyrocket to US $ 74 billion (Rp 1,034 trillion).

According to the same source, the company raised new funding of US$419.99 per share or only a few cents difference of US$420 when Elon Musk declared the takeover of Tesla in 2018, quoted by CNBC International (17/2/2021).

The funding also makes the company's valuation increase 60% from the previous round in August. At that time, SpaceX managed to raise US $ 2 billion and a valuation of US $ 64 billion.

Unfortunately, SpaceX did not immediately comment on the new funding for the company. This new infusion of funds coincides with SpaceX, which is currently working on two capital-intensive projects, namely Starlink and Starship.

Starlink is a project to build an internet network that is connected to thousands of satellites or called a constellation. The company designed this project to deliver high-speed internet to consumers around the world.

SpaceX previously estimated that Starlink would cost $10 billion or more. The company also believes the project could generate about three times the initial capital of US$30 billion per year or 10 times the annual revenue of the rocket business.

So far SpaceX has sent 1000 Starlink satellites into space. The service in public beta will be held for a number of countries namely the US, Canada and the UK.

In its filing with the US Federal Communications Commission last week, the company claimed it already had more than 10,000 users in both the US and other countries. This amount can be obtained three months from the start of the beta program.

Although there is no public service yet, the company has opened the order curtain for consumers who are interested in using Starlink services. SpaceX has a preorder price of US$99 for the Starlink service.

There is no definite date when public services will officially open. But in the order there is a message that the service will start operating mid to late 2021, while other preorders say in 2022.

Meanwhile, Starship is another ambitious project that is being built and prototyped at Boca Chica Texas. A number of prototypes have been successfully launched and landed safely after flying as high as 500 feet.

However, the last two test flights failed because they exploded when they were about to make a landing.
