XRP Crypto Reward Appears on Hacked PwC Twitter Account

The official Twitter account of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Venezuela, a professional services company, has been hacked and is promoting a scam under the guise of an XRP crypto gift.

Starting at 2.13 UTC, the Twitter account has tweeted a link to a site claiming to be a Ripple Labs representative and promising huge XRP rewards. The PwC account has tweeted the link 14 times.

XRP Crypto Reward Scam

The fake tweet advertises an event with Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse that it claims will start in the near future and includes a link aimed at lure victims to send their crypto assets.

Victims who click on those links are at risk of being scammed by hackers. If not eradicated, this scam could have a huge impact as the PwC Venezuela Twitter account has 37,000 followers.

Given that these tweets are still appearing on their Twitter account, it is suspected that PwC was not aware of the hacking that had occurred to their account.

Prior to the PwC tweet, a number of other verified Twitter accounts with large followings were also hacked and promoted the same scam.

Scams under the guise of XRP crypto rewards have been rife on social media for years.

In April 2020, Ripple Labs launched a lawsuit against YouTube on the grounds of failing to prevent and remove similar fraudulent videos.

Ripple Labs claims YouTube's failure to eradicate fraudulent videos damaged Ripple's reputation.

In September 2021, YouTube reached a deal with Ripple Labs. Both parties are committed to working together to prevent fraud under the guise of crypto gifts.

In May, fraudsters under the guise of XRP managed to hack into the accounts of Spain's oldest legal institution. Social media has been a prime target for crypto scammers for years.

The scammers primarily target verified accounts in order to give their fake offers an official impression.

on Saturday (03/09/2022), the South Korean government's official YouTube channel was hacked and renamed “SpaceX Invest.” The channel is promoting crypto scams with a live broadcast featuring Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

In March, verified Twitter accounts began promoting fake airdrops in the name of Ape Coin (APE), a crypto asset linked to the NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). This scam managed to get US $ 1 million from the victim.
